IT ALL BEGINS WITH AN IDEA
Corral De Piedra, Marzo 2025
April 15th 2025
I've been thinking about starting a blog for a while now, not to shout anything into the world, but rather as a way to organize my thoughts, to quietly record what moves me.
The clearest idea that came to mind was to share something I'm deeply passionate about: nature, and those activities that have become part of my routine, like hiking, camping, taking photos, or simply exploring with no fixed destination.
This first entry is a welcome, and also a small tribute to one of the places that has marked me the most: Corral de Piedra, in the State of Mexico. A place almost completely disconnected from technology, and for that reason, ideal for reconnecting with yourself.
I’ve visited many times. It has given me moments of peace and joy that I still hold as some of my favorite memories. The best way to get there, at least for me, is by hiking about 28 km, starting from the foothills of the Nevado de Toluca and ending in the Amanalco Valley.
It’s a long hike. You wake up early, start the walk while the air is still crisp and clear, and spend the day slowly making your way until you arrive just in time for sunset. Step by step, the mind begins to open. You think about the beauty around you, yes, but also about decisions, memories, doubts. The body gets tired, but something inside begins to clear.
When you finally see the lake of Corral de Piedra on the horizon, many of those thoughts start to settle. Others remain, waiting to be understood under the light of the stars.
The physical exhaustion is eased with a good meal and some rest. But what stays with you is something else entirely, a mental calm that’s hard to come by in everyday life.
It’s definitely one of the hikes I most often recommend.

One last note: unless you’re very experienced, I don’t recommend doing it alone. As with anything in the mountains, it should be done with care, respect, and responsibility.
Big hug,
Thanks for reading.
